Minimum wage in the Czech Republic rises to CZK 11,000

At the session of the Czech government of October 5, 2016, an increase of the minimum wage for workers in the Czech Republic to 11,000 CZK per month (or 66 CZK per hour) has been approved, and thus with effect as of 01.01.2017. At the same time, the special minimum wage rate for workers who receive a disability pension has been raised.

The minimum wage shall therefore according to the prognosis reach 38.2% of the wage average. The Minister of Labor and Social Affairs Ms. Michaela Marksová has stated that the minimum wage should rise during the year by a further 500 - 700 CZK. According to the coalition agreement, the Czech government intends to keep the minimum wage at the level of 40% of the wage average, which in the second quarter of 2016 amounted to CZK 27,297.
